Download mp3, video and other files from almost any website (if you not able download direct link) with just a little effort ? All you need is Firefox, the Firefox extension Firebug and a Download Manager. This knowledge is especially helpful if the tools you normally use to download videos, mp3 or flash games does not work on a website.

Firebug is actually a great web development extension for Firefox which does also list all objects that are loaded with their full url on the server. You just have to take a look at the objects and filter out the largest files which are most of the time the media files. Copy the url from that file and paste it into your download manager to download the mp3, video or other media file.

Let me give you an example on how to download a mp3 right from any mp3 and video site. Make sure you have the firebug extension installed.

  1. Visit the mp3 and video site and click on a band’s website,
  2. Open Firebug by pressing F12
  3. Play a song
  4. Check the NET tab in Firebug and search for the biggest file
  5. Copy the location of that file (by right-clicking it) and paste it into your download manager.
  6. Rename the file and give it the right file extension, in this case .mp3 .
  7. Download mp3 from mp3 and video site, if you not able download directly.

This method can be used on almost every other site that offers media files, if you are not able download directly. Want some examples ? Gametrailers, Myspace, Youtube (an another addon available in Firefox call DownthemAll), Armor Games and many more. It is not working with sites that stream content to your PC (like Internet Radio but all others should be fine.)
